Practice Toolkit: Principles of Partnership Building

Partnerships take time to grow and are based on mutual trust, respect, and commitment. The primary elements of a strong partnership include a commitment by all collaborators to:

  1. Involve all key partners
  2. Agree on the partnership's purpose, goals and objectives
  3. Determine each partner's expectations and anticipated benefits of the Partnership
  4. Determine the roles, responsibilities, and key tasks of each partner, along with an accompanying timeline
  5. Anticipate the partnership's outcomes and benefits
  6. Anticipate the partnership's financial and staffing considerations
  7. If additional funds are needed, a fundraising plan should be developed
  8. Anticipate the partnership's products and resulting copyright and ownership issues
  9. Plan an evaluation process
  10. Determine a publicity plan
